A new variant of the virus has been found in 35 samples from 73 people confirmed at a German hospital

A new variant of novel coronavirus has been discovered in a family in Bavaria, Germany, it was reported Thursday.

Seventy-three patients and medical staff at the hospital tested positive for novel coronavirus, and samples from 35 confirmed patients were found to contain an unknown novel coronavirus variant, the report said.
Samples of the mutant strain have been sent to the authorities in Berlin for further analysis.
The novel Coronavirus variant found at the hospital is different from those found in the UK, South Africa and Brazil.
It is not clear whether the new mutated virus is particularly infectious.

According to the Robert Koch Institute for Disease Control and Prevention, Germany has recorded 7,141 new cases of CoviD-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2,040,659.
There were 214 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 46,633.
