The new strain in Japan is different from those in Britain and South Africa

Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said Tuesday that a new strain of novel coronavirus, which is different from those found in Britain and South Africa, has been detected in 4 passengers who entered the country from Brazil.

The four men and women, aged between 10 and 40, arrived at Tokyo’s Haneda airport on February 2 and tested positive for novel coronavirus during quarantine, the ministry said.

Japan’s National Institute of Infectious Diseases after genetic sequencing, confirmed that they were infected with a new variant of the novel coronavirus, is studying this variant of the virus infectivity, severity, as well as the effect on the effectiveness of vaccines.
